PRINCE EDWARD — The Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office will host a community meeting on Thursday, Jan. 21, to discuss the prevention of youth in drugs, gang activity and the proper use of social media.
The meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Middle School.
The meeting will “discuss ways to help our youth resist pressures which may influence them to experiment with drug, join a gang or conduct themselves inappropriately on social media sites,” said Lt. Sonya Walker with the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office. “We would also like the opportunity to discuss the D.A.R.E. Program, which encourages problem solving, making wise decisions and ensuring a healthy awareness process about the use of drugs and other unsafe elements.”
Guest speakers for the event will discuss gangs, social media use, bullying, current drug trends and lessons from D.A.R.E.
Light refreshments will be served, she said.
