CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Board of Supervisors and Industrial Development Authority (IDA) are set to meet to discuss development of the county’s business park on Poorhouse Road off of U.S. Route 60.

During the Tuesday meeting, the possible erection of 220-by-100-by-17-foot prefabricated building on property at the park will be discussed, according to County Administrator and Attorney Vivian Seay Giles.

“There’s a building that the tobacco commission has purchased and there’s a possibility about getting that constructed,” Giles said, “and there are a couple different scenarios that we could explore and I think they wanted to talk with the board about that … and how much each option would potentially cost.”

Currently, there are no businesses in the 72-acre business park.

“Most of what we’re going to discuss will be in closed session,” said Fred Shumaker, the chairman of the county’s IDA. “However, I would like to see something come out of the meeting that would help us develop the industrial park [and] help move the county forward.”

Shumaker said he couldn’t offer specific details on his expectations.
