On Sunday, Feb. 15, Hampden-Sydney College hosts a nationally known, art historian who will deliver a talk entitled “The Duchamp Effect: Assemblage, Combines, and Collage.” This lecture will expand on the Dada movement and Duchamp’s use of play, chance and everyday objects in American art-making.

Amanda Dalla Villa Adams is a current doctoral student in art history at Virginia Commonwealth University, received her B.F.A. in sculpture from VCU, and her M.A. in art history from the University of Cincinnati. She will explore how Duchamp’s ideas were disseminated through American musician John Cage’s work.

This event is organized by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is supported by the Paul Mellon Endowment and Jean Stafford Camp Memorial Fund. The lecture begins at 3 p.m. in the Atkinson Museum and is free and open to the community.
