Boudreaux, Wright lead Dartmouth past Lancers

Longwood University’s men’s basketball team fell victim last week to hot shooting by The Big Green at Dartmouth as freshman forward Evan Boudreaux and sophomore guard Miles Wright each neared double-doubles en route to a 78-54 victory over the Lancers.

The big night from Boudreaux and company negated the third double-double performance of the season from Longwood big man Lotanna Nwogbo, who finished the night with 17 points and 11 boards.

Longwood was never able to get on track due to Boudreaux and a number of other Dartmouth players, who sparked an 11-0 run to start the game.

The performance for Boudreaux, who paced Dartmouth with a team-high 17 points, led the way as four players finished in double figures.

Wright finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Mike Fleming and Connor Boehm each logged 11 points.

“In the second half they took advantage of our lack of depth and wore us down,” Longwood head coach Jayson Gee said after the game.

“Their depth was a major factor in tonight’s game.”

Of the 17 players on Dartmouth’s roster, 16 played at least two minutes and no player needed to play more than 30 minutes, while the Lancers rolled with a seven-man rotation for the majority of the game, with three players logging 30 minutes on the court.

The Lancers were without the services of Kanayo Obi-Rapu who is day-to-day with a knee injury suffered in the first half of the game against George Mason.

Obi-Rapu is second on the team averaging 13.0 points per game.

The Lancers did get to see the return of senior guard Tra’Vaughn White, who scored eight points in his first action since injuring his hand after the Eastern Kentucky game.

“Tra’Vaughn looked good being back out there,” Gee said.

“It was an encouraging sign that he got in the mix. He drove the ball well and took some shots he’ll make when he gets all the way back.”

White led the Lancers with 32 minutes played in his first game action in exactly one month.

In addition to White’s efforts, Shaquille Johnson added 10 second-half points to finish the game with 11 and log his third double-figure game of the season.

Up next, Longwood will host UNC Asheville on Thursday at 2 p.m.
