The recently announced plans to turn the Hotel Weyanoke building on High Street into a high-end hotel has left the future of Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen at Bar 202 — which is housed in the building — in an uncertain position.

According to Jason Badeaux, owner of Badeaux’s restaurant, his lease does not expire until 2017.

Ross Fickenscher, co-owner of Hotel Weyanoke, said recently that project construction could begin in the summer of 2016. He said the project could be completed by summer 2017.

When asked about the future of the current businesses in the building at a recent town council meeting, Fickenscher didn’t offer comment.

Badeaux said “our lease is good until spring 2017 and we’re trying to negotiate about being part of the new upscale restaurant.”

Badeaux said business at the restaurant has been steadily growing and he’s excited about the potential business opportunities to come in the future.

Plans for the new hotel project include a 70-room facility that will house banquet facilities, a conference room an upscale restaurant.

Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen at Bar 202 has been operating at their current locations in Farmville since last year. Badeaux said the business has been in operation for almost a full year now.

According to Badeaux, he initially chose to introduce a branch of the restaurant in Farmville as a growth opportunity.

In addition to the Badeaux’s Cajun Kitchen located at 202 High St., a second location is located in Keysville at 150 Old Kings Highway.

Fickenscher said the historic High Street property would be converted into 27 rooms and 43 additional rooms will be added in the rear of the building.
