PRINCE EDWARD — A 41-year old Rice man died after suffering injuries in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday on State Route 630.

According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, Tony L. Baldwin died at the VCU Medical Center after crashing his 1985 Toyota pickup truck into a tree.

The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. less than a mile west of State Route 665, Geller said.

“As [his truck] came into a curve, it ran off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and then a tree. The impact with the tree caused the pickup to overturn and the driver to be ejected from the vehicle,” she said.

Geller said Baldwin was not wearing his seatbelt.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, she said. State Trooper B.J. Hylton is investigating the crash.
