Two PE zoning hearings set for Dec. 8

PRINCE EDWARD — County supervisors in Prince Edward will receive public comments on two special use permit requests on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m.

SBA Communications Corp. is seeking to construct a 195-foot monopole wireless communications tower on property owned by Robert Biggers Sr. at 13745 Farmville Road.

SBA “in conjunction with Verizon Wireless, is proposing the construction of a 195-foot monopole communications tower and associated facilities on the 78.9-acre parcel …,” the corporation stated in a letter to the county.

“SBA and Verizon contend that the proposed tower is needed to provide wireless coverage and data capacity along the U.S. [Route] 15 corridor … At present, there is a coverage ‘hole’ between the three existing tower sites. …”

The second permit is requested by Dominion Virginia Power to expand an existing electrical substation on a parcel of property owned by George and Penny Welch at 115 Merriman Shop Road.

Both properties are zoned A-1 agricultural.

The hearings will take place in the supervisors’ meeting room in the county courthouse.
