Lunch and Learn to ‘Deck the Halls’

Published 9:43 am Friday, November 27, 2015

On Thursday, (Dec. 3) at noon, S.J. Drummond will present “Deck the Halls” at the Heart of Virginia Master Gardener Lunch and Learn Program.

Drummond, owner/designer of Petals and recent Master Gardener graduate, will demonstrate not only how to “Deck the Halls” but the whole house with Christmas madness. Starting with wreaths and other porch necessities, Drummond will demonstrate how to decorate throughout the house, including tablescapes that can go from fine dining to a farm table. No flat surface is safe, and don’t forget the nooks and crannies.  Materials will include a mix of greenery and other items available from your yard as well as store-bought blooms and festive décor.

The educational tech coordinator at Fuqua School describes herself as a lifelong gardener and flower arranger.  These skills she began learning at an early age by studying with her grandmother, who was a talented floral designer, master judge and horticulturalist.

Today she continues to express her enjoyment of landscape and floral design in her own home and in others. She has designed and landscaped her own home and helped a few others with theirs. Her floral design business, Petals, offers monthly arrangements and event flowers.

The Prince Edward County Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners sponsor the Lunch and Learn series. The program will be held in the conference room of the Prince Edward County Extension Office, Dominion Drive, Farmville.  Bring lunch and learn how to decorate your home for the season.

On the Heart of Virginia Master Gardener website, www.hovmg.org, local gardeners will find a wide range topics including seasonal information, upcoming events and a link to Virginia Tech resources.

The Lunch and Learn program is free and lasts less than an hour.
