There are 101 Group AA High Schools in Virginia and most are vying to be crowned as producing the best one act play in the state. On Monday, December 6, 2010 in Charlottesville the Prince Edward High School Drama Team had the honor of participating in the Group AA State Theatre Festival Finals. The Eagles' trip to the State Festival was a result of winning the Southside District and placing second behind Lafayette High School in regional competition. Lafayette also finished first in the state competition. Congratulations to Lafayette and to the Eagles who finished fifth. Furthermore, congratulations to Alicia Moseley for winning a best actress award for her performance.
We cannot begin to tell people how outstanding this entire competition has been. We have had the pleasure of viewing young actors and actresses full of passion, acting out plays that made us laugh, cry, think, and we feel privileged to be caught up in the experience. The many hours of hard work and dedication that the teachers and students put into their respective play really showed.
We as a community, should rally around the drama department at the high school and support theatre and arts in every way possible. The members of this years drama team are: Carter Chassey, Waldell Goode, Kat Lewis, Geoff Archer, Malcolm Vaughan, Zack Fenton, Nicole Hayes, Kathryn Dimaano, Karol Crisostomo, Alicia Moseley, Dylan Abrams, Kendra Watkins, Maurice Davis-Taylor, Conner Watson, Erin Gansert, Brooks Rice, Becky Breckinridge, Xavier Harrison, Victoria Carter, Kaliena Dimaano, Jae Edwards, Cassie Badger, Lauren Morgan, and Whitaker Reed. Ms. Debbie Rush directed the play entitled, "The Elephant's Graveyard” with support from Ms. Metro and others.
To the drama team and everybody that is connected with the drama department we say, thank you and congratulations on the production of a great play and a job well done. You make us proud!!
