Broadwater nixes Fuqua’s playoff chances

Broadwater Academy took away two-time state finalist Fuqua School’s playoff chances on Saturday with a 33-27 victory on the Eastern Shore.
The Vikings, 6-4, claimed the final spot in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division 4 playoffs. Fuqua, which lost despite Tyler’s Frink’s 254 rushing yards, ended the season 4-5.
The Falcons trailed 21-20 at halftime and 27-20 after three quarters.
Frink and Devin Allen, both of whom battled injuries in recent weeks, led the Falcons. Frink had 37 carries for 254 yards, including touchdown runs of 16 yards and 45 yards. He also had a 27-yard touchdown reception.
Allen went 5-for-13 passing for 92 yards, had seven carries for eight yards, threw two touchdowns and had three interceptions.
Ed Newman added six rushes for 26 yards, while Billy French had three receptions for 67 yards and scored on a 50-yard pass from Allen.
Jeffery Fariss finished with 11 tackles to lead Fuqua defensively.
French had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Frink had six tackles.
Fuqua Coach Ben Manis could not be reached for comment.
