DECEMBER 7 – Jean Flaugher Kershner, 86, formerly of Ocean Pines, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2010.

Since the sale of her Ocean Pines home, she had been residing with her daughter Connie in Farmville. She adored the home that she and Rex had in Ocean Pines and the people and community that surrounded them. It was only because of failing health that she ever considered leaving the beloved community behind. Mrs. Kershner was well known at the Community Church where she sang in the choir for over 20 years. She also was a regular participant at the tennis club and on the golf course. She was an enthusiastic member of the Ocean Pines Players for some years. She developed many friendships through her participation in the many activities of Ocean Pines.

Nell Jean Flaugher was the youngest of four children of Winifred and Herbert Flaugher of West Virginia. She dropped the Nell from her name and began by joining the Navy, shortly after graduating from high school. After her discharge, she met and married Rex Kershner, who predeceased her in 2007. She worked for a number of years at Williamson Trade School, in the Office of Development.
