Republican David Meinhard won re-election to the District Four seat on the Cumberland County Board of Supervisors by three votes on Tuesday.
Meinhard received 201 votes to independent challenger Bill Bruce’s 198. Meinhard garnered 49.14 percent of the vote, while Bruce garnered 48.41 percent.
“As close as the vote was I feel like I was very lucky,” Meinhard said. “I feel good about winning. I won with what I thought was a good,
clean campaign.”
Meinhard, who will begin his second term in January, said he was disappointed in the voter turnout.
Banks holds board seat
Incumbent Lloyd Banks garnered enough votes to return to the District Two seat on the board of supervisors for a second term.
Banks, an independent, received 279 votes to independent challenger Tim Kennell’s 173. Banks garnered about 62 percent of the vote while Kennell received 38 percent.
“I would like to thank all of my supporters across the county for their assistance, encouragement and prayers,” Banks said. “The overall results in our board of supervisor races reflect a mandate to live within our means and limit tax burdens.”
Osl, Morgan win on write ins
Bill Osl garnered a majority of write in votes in Cumberland’s District One Board of Supervisors race, according to County Voter Registrar Marlene Watson.
Osl currently represents District One on the board and didn’t file for re-election. No one appeared on the ballot.
Catherine Baber Fleishman mounted a write in campaign in the district. Over 250 write in votes were cast.
Watson said Cynthia Morgan received a majority of write in votes for the District Four School Board seat. No name appeared on the race’s ballot with George Reid’s decision not to seek re-election. Over 160 write in votes were cast.
Election results are unofficial until certified by the county’s electoral board.
