Church programs and Apple Butter Festival fill fall calendar

Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Larry Davidson, of West Virginia (Nov. 6); Betty Waycaster, of Dillwyn, and Eric Cooke, of Cartersville (Nov. 8); and Rebecca Stuck, of Maryland and formerly of Cumberland (Nov. 11).
Welcome Wesleyan Church, 26565 North James Madison Highway in New Canton, will hold its 4th annual pulled pork barbecue and Boston butt sale on Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Pork barbecue is $10 per quart; Boston butts are $25. Pre-orders are recommended, call (434) 581-3662. Proceeds will benefit two mission churches.
Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, along with Jane Cooke and grandson Sam Givens of Brookneal, enjoyed the annual Apple Butter Festival at Clearview Baptist Church of Rustburg and enjoyed great food, music and more.
Maranatha Baptist Church, 2204 Tuggle Road, will hold special services on Sunday at 11a.m. and 6 p.m. with guest speaker Rev. Bob Lee, of Lynchburg. His emphasis is on missions. There will be special music during the Sunday school hour (10 a.m.) with the Singing Burrell’s featuring Clyde, Doris and daughter Diana, all of Appomattox. Lunch will follow the morning service. Pastor Steve Conwell invites all to attend.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association will hold its annual Thanksgiving Banquet on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road. All members and guests are invited to attend and bring a covered dish (meats and drinks furnished). The Singing Burrells of Appomattox will provide special music. Spreading God’s Gifts, Inc. will hold a benefit fried chicken dinner concert on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the VFW Hall, 14405 West James Anderson Highway, Buckingham, with dinner from 5-6 p.m. followed by special music by Smokey Wilson of Concord. The menu will include fried chicken, green beans, potatoes, roll, dessert and a beverage for a donation (eat in or take out).
