Halvorsen named JRD Male Runner of the Year

Cumberland High School’s Jared Halvorsen was awarded the James River District Male Runner of the Year award for the second year in a row last week, after finishing first individually with a time of 17:36:00 at the JRD Cross-Country Championships at Occoneechee State Park.
Halvorsen also aided the Cumberland boys cross-country team in finishing third at the event with a time of 1:39:19.
Goochland (1:37:30) took first place and Randolph-Henry (1:40:01) finished second as a team.
Cumberland’s Matthew Bapties (17:57:00) finished second individually, while Hunter Cochran (19:39:00) came in eighth.
Nottoway’s girls team (2:02:35) finished first, while Goochland (2:03:05) took second and Bluestone (2:07:50) took third.
The Lady Dukes team did not have enough members to compete as a team.
Ebony Jones led the Cumberland girls team, as she was named All-James River District and finished 15th individually.
Both Cumberland High School boys and girls cross-country teams advance to the Conference 42 Cross-Country Championships on Wednesday.
They will compete at Beaver Dam Park in Gloucester.
