Prince Edward’s Delquan Bigelow broke two school records on Friday in the Eagles’ 35-0 win against Cumberland as he notched his 21st touchdown in a single season and 1,476 rushing yards in a single season.

“In the first quarter Prince Edward put together a couple of good drives on offense, and we just could not get ourselves on track offensively,” said CHS head football coach Ed Knapp. “Turning the ball over three times in the first half really hurt us.”

Bigelow led the mighty Eagle offense with 22 carries for 246 yards and three touchdowns on 6, 10 and 15-yard runs. K’Nyron Cordell followed with seven carries for 65 yards and a 4-yard touchdown run. Tray Scott also scored on a 42-yard pass from Joel Thomas. Scott finished the night with five catches for 63 yards and a carry for 12 yards. Thomas went 4-for-9 in passing for 50 yards, threw a touchdown pass and had an interception. All touchdowns were followed by successful extra points by Craig Burns.

“I was pleased with the overall effort of our team, especially defensively,” said PECHS head football coach James Ford. “We were able to get a defensive stand on the first possession and get Delquan going early. We were able to feed off that and keep the momentum going throughout (the rest of the game).”

The Eagles’ defense was led by Brandon McKay with nine tackles. Markeem Trent had eight tackles on the night, with Rafiq Adbus-Sabur had six tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

DeSuan Jennings led Cumberland with 14 carries for 52 yards, while Darius Jackson had six carries for 25 yards. Raheem Rumsey was the CHS defensive leader with 10 tackles. Tyveon Goodwin followed with  eight tackles and a tackle for a loss.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-4. They also improve to No. 5 in the Quad Rivers Conference 34 standings. Since Cumberland does not play a complete district schedule, they are ineligible for playoff contention, according the the Virginia High School League website.
