FARMVILLE — The Virginia Aqua-Farmers Network on Milnwood Road is set to receive $100,000 from the U.S. Department of of Agriculture’s (USDA) Local Food Promotion Program.

“This organization will produce ready-to-eat products utilizing local food from producers in their aquaculture network. They will also promote the products via wholesale and retail,” according to Joe LaPaille, a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine.

Kaine and U.S. Sen. Mark Warner announced the USDA’s grant funding of over $777,600 on Tuesday for communities across the state to improve and expand access to locally grown foods.

“Today’s funding — made available by the Agricultural Act of 2014 — will support operations at local farms, markets and conservation organizations that promote locally-grown foods and support economic development and small business activities in Virginia,” the press release stated.

The $100,000 will also go toward supporting the network’s organization operations and increasing local food production.
