Football returns to Friday night

After games were canceled due to rough incoming weather last week, local teams are anxious to return to playing on Friday night under the lights.
The Fuqua Falcons will be excited to meet their arch nemesis, Roanoke Catholic, once again, while all other area teams will be fighting for a James River District (JRD) win.
Buckingham (4-1) VS. Goochland (3-2)
Last season, the Goochland High School Bulldogs handed Buckingham a 41-27 loss at their home field. However, this year the tables have turned as Buckingham will have the home-field advantage.
Although Goochland is known for its powerful and forceful defense, it will have its hands full with Buckingham’s Leon Ragland.
Cumberland (2-2) At Randolph-Henry (2-4)
Cumberland has had a rough start this season as it falls last on the JRD ranking with a 0-2 district record.
However, this factor will not stop Dakoda Boyles and the rest of the Dukes team. They are raring for a district win and they hope to gain their first one on R-H’s homecoming night. However, the Statesmen haven’t lost to the Dukes since 2012, and they certainly aren’t ready to hand over a win now. The game should be a close nail-biter.
Fuqua VS. ISLE OF WIGHT
The Falcons have proven to be unbeatable this season as they improved to 4-0 after their Hampton Roads win and hold the first-place ranking in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division IV standings. However, this week won’t be as easy of a stroll for Fuqua. The Falcons will be hosting Isle of Wight, who they only beat by one point last season. The Chargers will be looking to take revenge on Fuqua.
Prince Edward vs. GOOCHLAND
Although Prince Edward will be taking on a tough Goochland team, they might fare out nicer than expected. Goochland lost momentum in its last game against Randolph-Henry and the Statesmen held a lead during halftime. The Bulldogs are not as strong as last season and PE will try to capitalize on that.
