BUCKINGHAM – On Friday, November 5, it's Cash BINGO night at the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and BINGO starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $20-no checks or credit cards. Players must be 18 or older.
Just think, while you are having a great time playing BINGO, you'll be supporting the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Depart-ment.
Gearing up for the holiday season, a planning meeting for the Christ in Christmas mission will be held on Sunday, No-vember 7, 4 p.m., at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church. The church is located off Route 15 on Route 617, Gravel Hill Road.

Buckingham 4-H is planning a BBQ Sale on Friday, November 12, with orders ready for pick-up from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Pork BBQ items can be pre-ordered by calling the Buckingham Extension Office at 969-4261. The form is available at http://offices.ext.vt.edu/buckingham/
The menu features chopped pork BBQ at $8 per pound; Boston butts at $30 each; whole pork loins at $30 each and halves for $20. To top the BBQ, pints of Myers BBQ sauce will be available at $5 per pint. Orders must be prepaid.
Along with the delicious BBQ, the 4-H is selling African violet plugs grown from seeds in the extension office. The vio-lets are available for $2 each.
Okay, let's see, we're talking about delicious BBQ pork topped with Myers special recipe BBQ sauce. Doesn't that make supporting the 4-H a tad bit too easy?
Proceeds will be used to support 4-H programming and volunteer development along with providing scholarships for youth in financial need.
Maysville Baptist Church is sponsoring Upward Basketball for boys and girls in grades first through sixth.
Upward Basketball offers kids a fun environment built around healthy competition. The program teaches skills for the sports arena and values for life. Each athlete will enjoy an exciting game-time experience that improves skills and builds healthy self-confidence.
The program stresses values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity, and respect. And, it's a fun and family friendly league, limiting the time commitment to one practice and one game per week.
Early registration cost per child is $55. After November 6, the cost is $65. The registration cost for each additional child per family is $50. Deadline for registration is November 13.
All players must attend the basketball evaluation scheduled for Saturday, November 13, between 9 a.m. and noon, at the Maysville Baptist Church gym.
Practices begin the week of December 13, with the first game scheduled for Saturday, January 8.

Fun with Foods is a program designed for youth ages nine and up who would like to learn basic cooking skills. Partici-pants will learn to read and follow recipes while making a dish to take home and share with their families. Cost for the series is $36 to cover food and supplies.
Although the program started in October, other sessions are planned for November 16, December 14, January 11, Feb-ruary 8, and March 8. Sessions are held at the Agricultural Center will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Cloverbud Club: This brand new club is for children ages five through eight. The club meets on the second Wednesday of the month, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Buckingham Extension Office, located in the Agricultural Center, on Route 60 next to the County Administration Complex.
Fashion Design: Youth ages 9 and older have the opportunity to learn the basics of machine stitching and/or practice existing skills. Although the program started in October, sessions are planned for November 18, December 2 and 16, January 6 and 20, February 3 and 17, March 3, 17 and 31, April 14, and May 5 and 19, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. each session. The cost is $25, if materials are provided; or, free for youth who purchase their own supplies.

Due to circumstances beyond their control, the folks at Salem United Methodist Church are postponing Meet Your Neighbor Day that was planned for Saturday, November 6. They apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Arvonia Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is hosting Sterling Silver Jewelry Bingo on Friday, November 12, at 7 p.m., at the Arvonia Firehouse. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, too.
All game prizes are real sterling silver with an estimated value between $80 and $150. The grand prize set carries an estimated value of $200. Prices include sets of sterling silver pieces, which could include any two of the following-necklace, bracelet, or earrings.
Tickets are $20 and are available from any AVFD Auxiliary member or by calling Jennifer at (434)981-2088 or Dorothy at 581-1273.
Please note that tickets are limited so they may or may not be available at the door on the night of the event. So you better get them now.
The Buckingham County Friends of the Library will host a Bake and Book Sale at the Buckingham County Library on Saturday, November 20 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Planned just before the Thanksgiving holidays, the bake sale will feature pies, cakes, and cookies to help make your Turkey Day a little less stressful and more special.
While you're selecting that dessert, take time to look over the many once read books available at prices that can't be beat. Many of the books are suitable for gift-giving and stocking stuffing.
If you have books you would like to donate for this sale, please bring them to the library by Friday, November 19.
All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library's building fund.
The award winning culinary arts department at Buckingham Career and Technical Center has opened its restaurant, the Window Room, to the public.
Chef Sandra Hawk invites local businesses and the community to come in most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Table service is available from 11:30 to 12:40; and, carry out is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students prepare delicious sandwiches, plate lunches, homemade breads and desserts. Call (434)969-6180 for details as the menu will change often.
The Buckingham Career and Technical Center, a.k.a. the Vocational Center, is located on the campus of Buckingham County High School.
The Chamber of Commerce wants to make sure you mark Sunday, December 5, on your calendar. That's when the Chamber will host its Christmas House Tour. The tour will feature seven homes and the Historic Village at Lee Wayside will be open to tour attendees. Tour time is from 4 to 8 p.m. More details will be available in the coming weeks.
