Central Virginia Arts invites the community to a reception featuring artists Cynthia Devlin and Frederick Gamage. The opening for their exhibit is on Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Café, 522 North Main Street, Farmville. Refreshments will be served.

Cynthia Devlin’s passion for painting was recovered after moving to Farmville from Minnesota in 1990. Like so many people, she’d forgotten to take time for her artistic expression and was eventually guided by her dreams back to art. Now, playing primarily with acrylics and watercolors, she describes her paintings as “intuitive art.” As a psychotherapist, Devlin has a strong foundation for a holistic-counseling approach. In addition to individual sessions, she offers workshops in Dreamtending and “M & M’s: Meditation and Mandalas” (sacred circle art for self-expression, integration and healing). Frederick Gamage, known as Freddie, was born and raised at “Newstead,” a large James River farm in Cartersville. He still lives and paints in the area, inspired by the rural landscape and seasons and the ridges along the James. “I never know what will spark my interest,” he said. He has worked mainly with soft pastels for the past 15 years. His goal today is to reduce composition to large shapes, using color to express his feelings. Gamage maintains a studio/gallery at Cumberland Court House. He is a member of Central Virginia Arts, Buckingham County Arts Council, Fluvanna Art Association and is a juried member of Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia.
