A 15-year-old Appomattox County boy died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Buckingham, and the driver was charged with driving under the influence.
Jason D. Chilton, a front-seat passenger in the 2000 Ford Ranger, died at the scene on Route 636, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller. He was wearing a seat belt.
The crash occurred at 3:20 a.m. less than a mile south of Route 697, Geller said.
“A 2000 Ford Ranger was traveling north on Route 636 when it ran off the left side of the road as it came through a curve. The pickup truck overturned and struck a tree on the passenger side,” she said.
The driver, Daniel L. Baldwin, 24, of Pamplin, was not injured in the crash, Geller said. He was not wearing a seat belt.
“The second passenger, a 17-year-old male, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt,” she said.
Baldwin was charged with DUI, Geller said. The crash remains under investigation.
