Harvie L. Whitus

Harvie L. Whitus, of Green Bay, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at The Woodland in Farmville. He was born on April 28, 1937 in Wood County, Texas to the late Everett L. and Beatrice N. Whitus. He was predeceased by brothers, E. B. Whitus and Ray Whitus, and sisters, Joy Dowell and Helen Pomes.
Mr. Whitus is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Whitus and son, David Whitus and wife, Wanda of Farmville. Surviving brothers are Windell Whitus (Glenda) and Joe Whitus (Beverly) and sisters, Jane Currey (Johnny) and Billie Boyles (Bimmy), all of Texas.
His early life was spent in East Texas, then he joined the Navy in 1955 and from there he travelled the world. After his military career, he joined Ford Motor Company in Norfolk before moving to Green Bay in 1971. He retired in 2000 from the Amelia-Nottoway Vocational Center where he enjoyed teaching young people. He was an Elder, Deacon and Board Chairman at Liberty Christian Church in Green Bay for more than 30 years. He was a man of great faith and spent his life helping others.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 28 at Liberty Christian Church with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice to follow.
The family will receive friends at Puckett Funeral Home on Sunday, September 27 from 5p.m. until 7p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Christian Church.
