October 28 – Last week, I listed some of the national awareness days and recognition events in October. Well, November brings a whole new list: American Diabetes Month, National Alzheimer's Disease Month, Home Care Month, and National Hospice Month.
And, of course, we cannot forget that Tuesday, Nov. 2, is Election Day. I hope that everyone will get out and vote.
A reminder that Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 7.
On Oct. 16, the Baker Family Reunion was held at the Abilene Community Center. There were 65 attendees, including seven of the eight children of Russell P. Baker Sr. and Annie Allen Baker. Everyone had a wonderful time visiting with family and friends.
On Oct. 28, the Abilene Homemakers Club delivered Halloween Goodie Bags to the children at the Piedmont Juvenile Detention Facility.
On Oct. 30, the Abilene Homemakers Club will join in with other members of the community for a neighborhood Yard Sale, Flea Market, Bake and Craft Sale, Stew and other Halloween activities to be held at the Abilene Junction General Store. The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. The stew will be ready at 2 p.m. So, come on out and shop for bargains at the yard sale, pick up a pie or some cookies, and stick around for the stew and other activities. The drawing for the Abilene Homemakers Club quilt raffle will be held in the afternoon. Raffle tickets will be available for sale or from any member or give me a call at 223-2271 and I will get some tickets to you. You do not have to be present to win.
The Cardinal Quilt Guild of Prince Edward County will hold their regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Douglas Presbyterian Church. Visitors, guests, and new members are always welcome. You do not have to be an expert quilter to enjoy this group. Stop by for a visit. We are already hard at work on the next group of quilts for the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation.
Happy Birthday wishes are extended to Cathy Bissett who will be celebrating on Oct. 31; Todd Adams on Nov. 3; Marshall Thackston on Nov. 5; and Violet Thackston on Nov. 6.
