H-SC golf places seventh at Tom Kinder Memorial

The Hampden-Sydney golf team kicked off its fall season with a seventh place finish in the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College.

The two-day event featured 18 teams, with Ferrum taking home first place after shooting 11 over par.

The Tigers, led by Alex Simmons’ (Charlottesville/Albemarle) 12th place finish (72-75-147), shot 22 over par.

Bridgewater College (+13) and Piedmont College (+16) rounded out the top three in the tournament.

Austin Fockler (Richmond/St. Christopher’s) and Aaron Persily (Charleston, W. Va./Charleston Catholic) each tied for 18th, finishing five over par. Fockler had rounds of 74 and 75, and Persily shot 73 and 76.

Parker Smith (Warrenton/Fauquier) used rounds of 78 and 75 to finish 39th at nine over par, and Hill Donihe (Roanoke/Patrick Henry) rounded out the group, placing 56 (80-77-157).

Virginia Wesleyan’s Evan Cox was the top individual finisher, shooting rounds of 64 and 73 to finish seven under par.

The Tigers return to action Monday, Sept.28, in the VSGA State Championship.

The two-day event will take place at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
