A lot of times the difference between two football teams is what one team does with its breaks that the other team doesn't.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot took full advantage of several Fuqua School miscues in last Friday night's battle between two of the top teams in the VISFA's Division IV to roll to a 39-0 victory over the previously undefeated Falcons.

Fuqua struggled to gain offensive consistency all evening against the BS-H defense, while the Knights controlled the tempo of the game.

“They probably had the ball three plays to our one,” said FS head coach Skeeter Fore. “That made things a lot harder for us, and gave us no room for error. Both teams made mistakes, but we didn't take advantage of our good fortune, while they took full advantage of theirs.

“Quite a few times they answered a three-and-out by us with a ten or 12 play drive, and they'd end it with a score too. After a while, things just began to snowball.”

Fuqua's last good shot at getting into the ballgame came at the start of the third quarter. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot scored just before halftime to take a 19-0 lead. Fuqua kicked off to the Knights to begin the third quarter. BS-H fumbled around its 20-yard-line, but recovered.

“After they recovered, they went down and scored, and we couldn't recover. I'm not sure it would've made much difference in the end had we recovered that fumble, but we had a similar situation against Brunswick Academy, where we were up by three scores, recovered a fumble to turn away what looked to be a sure score by them, and scored shortly thereafter to put the game away.”

Fuqua junior quarterback Charles Williams was stymied all evening. He had 11 carries for 37 yards, while Larry Haskins had ten carries for 44 yards.

Williams was 4-5 passing for 45 yards and an interception, while Carter Cunningham had one completion for 30 yards.

Michael Marquez had two catches for 30 yards, while Jai Jamerson had one catch for 32 yards and Cunningham had two catches for 13 yards.

Defenseively, Williams led the Falcons with 12 tackles, while Haskins had seven tackles and four assists.

Fuqua will step out of VCC play this week, but the game will be just as important, as the Falcons travel to Roanoke Catholic for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
