The Friends of the Appomattox River conducted their 2010 Fall River Cleanup Oct. 2 as part of Stewardship Virginia and part of the International Coastal Cleanup/Clean Virginia Waterways effort. The volunteers in the photo are: (from left) Lee Woodruff, Jimmy Davis, Jakob Gustafsson (Longwood Tennis Team) Hunter Barnes, Colbart Lucey (Hampden-Sydney student), Crescente Lesser, Betty Robb Breen, and Pat Breen. Not pictured are Damian Fehrer and Joe McCutcheon. The group collected over 200 pounds of trash from Wilck's Lake, Buffalo Creek, the Appomattox River, and Sandy River Reservoir areas. Bottles, cans, plastic bait containers, a bicycle seat, a metal chair, and hubcaps were some of the items collected. The Town of Farmville assisted with the disposal of the trash collected.
