“Nothing is troublesome that we do willingly.” —Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest needs your help! Volunteers are the backbone of the organization at Poplar Forest––working alongside the professional staff as tour docents, school tour docents, hands-on-history docents working with school groups, museum shop assistants, surveyors, office assistants, high school and college interns and helping with special events.
Mr. Jefferson’s plantation, a National Historic Landmark, simply could not function without their help. And with a growing slate of community events and the rising number of visitors at Poplar Forest, there’s an increasing need for additional volunteers. Join Visitor Experience and Volunteer Manager Gena Morris at a Volunteer Open House on Saturday (Sept. 5) or on Saturday, Sept.19, to learn how you can become a Poplar Forest volunteer.
“Every organization that has volunteers knows how essential they are to their success,” said Morris. “At Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest I have the honor of working with a fantastic group of dedicated, committed, smart, hardworking, involved, friendly, knowledgeable volunteers every day. Our volunteers, who generously give the most precious gift of their time, work as a team with our professional staff to ensure the success of Poplar Forest.”
In the next few weeks, Morris and her band of volunteers will be out in the community recruiting and inviting all potential new volunteers to attend one of the open houses. An on-the-spot interview will be available for volunteers interested in attending a new volunteer training session on October 4.
