PRINCE EDWARD — Two major road construction projects are underway on Back Hampden Sydney and Singleton roads in Prince Edward County.
According to VDOT, Singleton Road in Darlington Heights was closed on Aug. 24 for rehabilitation of a culvert pipe. The closure begins at Darlington Heights Road and ends at Goose Creek Road, said VDOT Spokeswoman Paula Jones.
The maintenance project will cost about $150,000 and the road will reopened by Sept. 11, she said.
Reconstruction of Back Hampden Sydney Road has started, and will be under construction near the intersection of Buffalo Heights Road until April 2016.
“Traffic will be controlled by flaggers; [and the] speed limit [will be] reduced in [the] work zone. The project involves reconstruction of the roadway and will include grading, drainage structures and paving,” Jones said.
In May, White’s Construction Inc. was awarded an approximately $1.17 million contract for the project, Jones said.
