Tibbs named VBEA Teacher of the Year

The Walter L. Shell Business Teacher of the Year Award honors an outstanding business and information technology teacher in Virginia who exemplifies excellence in teaching. The 2015 recipient is Jessica Sayer Tibbs.
This year’s recipient teaches business and information technology courses to ninth through twelfth graders, including dual enrollment courses in computer information systems and business law classes at Prince Edward County High School. She coaches cross country, serves as a liaison for Microsoft IT Academy and is a member of the professional development and school improvement teams. She is the FBLA adviser and serves as a board member of FBLA-PBL Foundation and VBEA.
She was selected by her peers as the 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year for Prince Edward County High School. In 2010, she was awarded the Southside Virginia Community College Excellence in Teaching followed by the Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium Technology Teacher of the Year award in 2013.
Mrs. Tibbs utilizes her talents to cultivate learning beyond the classroom with after-school programs that allow students to focus on FBLA competitions and leadership skills. She makes activities fun and engaging while presenting a high degree of educational value to the students. The academic and leadership skills that her students have learned will lead them to value community responsibility and career success.
