The Buckingham County High School varsity volleyball team opened its season on the road against rival Appomattox and fell 3-0.

The Knights and new head volleyball coach Alan Hershberger played well at times in the three sets against Appomattox, but would not be able to come away with a victory.

Appomattox got an early lead in the first game and won 25-11. The second set was a closer game as the two teams stayed within a few points of each other and were tied at 24 before Appomattox got the final two points and took a 26-24 win.

Appomattox went on to claim a 25-15 third game and overall win.

The BCHS varsity volleyball team will travel to Nottoway on Thursday for a 7 p.m. James River District contest.
