The Cumberland County Public Library has received a grant of 78 new children’s books from The Libri Foundation, with support from an anonymous donor. 

According to Library Director Jennifer Beach, The Libri Foundation is a nationwide non-profit organization, which donates new, quality, hardcover children’s books to small, rural public libraries in the United States through its Books For Children program.

Included in the grant are 19 additional math and science titles, funded by Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhager.

The total value for the donated books exceeds $1,400. This is Cumberland’s third Libri grant in the past 10 years.

“This summer we have been focusing on updating the children’s non-fiction section,” Beach said. “With the help of our summer intern, Caroline Shoenthal, we paid particular attention to our math and science books. The Libri Foundation Grant perfectly aligned with our plan to revitalize that section and allowed us to expand the juvenile non-fiction more completely than we had initially hoped. The Library will be contacting the Cumberland Elementary School to alert teachers to our new additions in the hope that these books can also be of help in the classroom,” she said.
