The Prince Edward County High School golf team recently traveled to Crewe Country Club where they took on a pair of talented James River District teams. Head coach Mike Weaver said that he is pleased with the way his young team is progressing early in the season. The Eagles have no seniors on the current team, which should bode well for the future as they continue to gain experience.

PECHS took first place with a score of 189, while Buckingham County High School followed in second with 207. The Nottoway High School Cougars finished last with 200.

The top four scorers for Prince Edward were turned in by Henry Lutz with 40, Niko Reinson with 45, Mark Stanley with 52 and Brady Atkins with 52.

The team also saw Jordan Conwell shoot a 55 and Chris Word shoot a 61 score.

The Eagles currently have an overall record of 3-2.

“We have many returning players who have been working hard and some new faces that will be fitting in well. We have a great team dynamic and look forward to the rest of the season,” said Weaver.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Appomattox for a match against Buckingham and Cumberland high schools.
