FARMVILLE — Town Manager Gerald Spates reported at last Wednesday’s Town council work session that they have obtained their erosion permit and that the construction of a planned burn building should start on it in the next 30 days. The structure is a sophisticated mock training structure for firefighters.

Farmville has been awarded a $480,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs to build a Prototype II Class B Burn building, which is a training structure that would aid area fire departments. The total budget includes a $119,000 match from the Town, which factors the donation of land, site preparation, entrance, parking area, water/sewer installations and tap fee waivers.
