HOWARDSVILLE — While there’s no word on the cause of the massive blaze that destroyed the historic 117-year-old Dungannon home early Tuesday morning, no foul play is suspected.

“We didn’t have any suspicion,” said Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Lilly. “We didn’t see anything suspicious.”

The large house, built in 1898, went up in flames in a fire that summoned all four of Buckingham’s volunteer fire departments, along with volunteers from the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department.

The home was constructed by Mary Bruns, according to a history of the home in The Courthouse Burned, on land which had been given to her by her father, General T.M. Logan. The multi-story home was made of up several distinct sections, including a round tower on one corner of the house.
