The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) held its annual camp at the University of Richmond recently. The camp had 313 campers, which was up 59 participants from last year. There were eight campers from the Farmville area.
The camp gives participants the chance to go through athletic, spiritual and leadership training. At the end of the week, campers can make commitments to their faith.
This year’s FCA camp ended with 102 participants rededicating their lives to Jesus Christ and 36 campers receiving Christ for the first time, according to Farmville FCA Area Representative Mario Huffman.
“Camp was a phenomenal experience. This was my second year, and it amazes me to see the spiritual growth of young men and women over a five-day period,” said Huffman. “I believe this camp is the defining moment in the lives of so many people, and personally it encourages me to continue the journey even through difficulties.”
Huffman directs the FCA area that includes Farmville, Prince Edward, Cumberland, Buckingham, Amelia, Nottoway, Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties. He is normally aided by Matt Allen, who is in charge of FCA in Buckingham.
“FCA is for this entire community. Our vision is to impact the world through Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes,” said Huffman. “We are hoping to plant a seed in these athletes and help them become leaders.”
