RICHMOND — A Glen Allen man is behind bars on multiple charges related to the abduction of an 18-year-old Prince Edward County female on July 16.
Aaron M. Berg, 28, is being held at Henrico County Jail on charges of felony sodomy, strangulation, assault and battery, abduction with intent to defile, and intentionally destroying property, according to a media release from the Virginia State Police.
“At approximately 1:36 p.m., Thursday, Virginia State Police were notified of a possible abduction in progress on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia,” the release states. “State troopers were immediately dispatched to search for the suspect vehicle that was heading north on I-95 through Prince William County. At approximately 1:50 p.m., the suspect vehicle pulled off on the shoulder of I-95 near the 155 mile marker, and the 18-year-old female fled from the car. Berg, the driver, ran after her on foot a short distance before returning to his vehicle and driving off at a high rate of speed. The search continued for the suspect vehicle. The female was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital.”
The release added that further investigation into the incident led State Police to Berg’s Glen Allen residence. “Berg was apprehended without incident Thursday night, at a family member’s residence in Hanover County, Va.”
Berg and the 18-year-old victim were acquainted with one another, according to the release. State Police also report that the criminal investigation remains ongoing at this time.
