CUMBERLAND — More than 1,200 Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) customers in Cumberland — who were in the dark for most of the night last night — have their lights back on this morning.
According to CVEC spokesman Greg Kelly, the outage was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, stemming from a transmission line failure at Columbia.
The northern portion of Cumberland was most impacted, he said.
“That happened when a transmission line that’s operated by Dominion failed. And it was the transmission line over the [James] River,” he said.
All 1,260 CVEC customers lost power, Kelly said.
Some outages were restored at about 2 a.m. today, while lights were back on for all customers at about 6:30 a.m. he said.
