Mary Susie Watson Powell “Sue”

JULY 2 — Mary Susie Watson Powell “Sue”, born June 21, 1924, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015, one week after her 91st birthday.  She was the youngest of five children born to William A. and Sudie Overton Watson.  She was preceded in death by her four beloved brothers, Roach, James Goodrich, Wilson and Samuel and also her six older half-brothers and sisters.

In 1943 she married Edgar Powell, a Yankee whom she met at a USO Club in Blackstone.  After living in New Jersey for more than 30 years, they retired to Farmville.  They were married for 60 years before Mr. Powell passed away.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her daughters, Sharyn Abernatha, Debby Greulich (Jim), and Barbara Morris (Jimmy); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nephew, Hunter Watson; sister-in-law, Hilde Watson and numerous other family members. She will always be remembered as “Sweet Sue”.

Visitation will be July 10 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at the Farmville Presbyterian Church on July 11 at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Powell requested donations be made to the Farmville Presbyterian Church, the Macular Degeneration Association, or the Alzheimers Association.
