INVITATION TO BID

Sealed bids are invited for construction of renovations and additions to Dillwyn Primary and Dillwyn Elementary Schools, Buckingham County, Virginia. Sealed bids will be received until 2:00 pm, local prevailing time on September 16, 2010 at the Buckingham County Schools Administrative Office, 15595 W. James Anderson Highway, Buckingham, VA 23921, at which time bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.
Scope of the project includes construction of approximately 60,000 square feet of new additions and approximately 75,000 square feet of renovations, associated site work, asbestos abatement and demolition of an agriculture shop building, cafeteria wing and removal of mobile classroom trailers. The project has been registered with the United States Green Building Council and a goal of obtaining a LEED silver rating is being pursued.
Pre-bid conference shall begin at 10:00 am, August 31, 2010 on the project site in the Old Buckingham Middle School (adjacent to Dillwyn Elementary School, 40 Frank Harris Road, on US Route 20, north of Dillwyn VA 23936), and will include a tour of the project site. Attendance is not mandatory.
Bid documents may be secured from VMDO Architects, P.C., 200 East Market Street, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902, telephone (434) 296-5684, after 4pm on August 19, 2009, as follows:
Digital copy set(s): Bid documents on compact disc (CD) in pdf format will be provided upon receipt of non-refundable charge of $50.00 per CD; make check payable to “VMDO Architects PC”.
Hard copy paper set(s): Bid documents will be provided upon receipt of deposit of $500.00 per set, which includes a non-refundable charge of $50.00. Deposit refund in the amount of $450.00 will be made on up to two (2) sets to all Prime Bidders and on one (1) set to subcontractors and material suppliers. Drawings and Specifications must be returned to VMDO prepaid, in undamaged and unmarked condition, no later than 14 days after receipt of bids, or no refund will be made.

The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all bids and waive informalities. Procedure for withdrawal of a bid due to error is that described in Section 2.2-4330 of the Code of Virginia. A performance bond in the amount of 100% of the base bid price shall be required. A bid bond in the amount of 5% of the base bid price shall be required.
