Earl W. Andrews, 87, Of Petersburg Dies At Home

PETERSBURG, Aug. 25 – Earl W. Andrews, 87, of Peters-burg died on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Junius Andrews and Cora Bowman Andrews; brothers, Everett J. Andrews Jr., Maurice C. Andrews and Lester E. Andrews and sisters, Ercelle A. Whitt, Edith A. Rodgers, and Olivia A. Hurt.
Mr. Andrews served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 271st Field Artillery with the 1st Calvary with tours in Australia, Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Luzon, Leyte, and other parts of the Philippines. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech and was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg having been a continuous member of the choir for over 55 years, serving as Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was also a member of Lee's Mill Pond for over 40 years and was a past member of the Petersburg Kiwanis. Mr. Andrews retired as President of Stratton Supply Company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret Cabaniss Andrews; daughters, Susan A. Andrews and husband, Sidney, Margaret A. Robinson and husband, Prince, and Nancy W. Andrews; grandchildren, Greg Andrews, Emily Andrews, Jim Robinson, and Ginny Robinson; his twin sister, Elva A. Jones and husband, Thorpe; sister-in-law, Donna Andrews; long-time friend, James Horner and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Tuesday (today) at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Rand Forder and Rev. Rob Dawson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.
