Local Students Graduate From UMW

The following area students were among 1,158 students graduating from the University of Mary Washington. Steven R. Staples, State Superintendent, delivered the commencement address for graduate students and Pamela Bridgewater, a Foreign Service officer who served as U.S. Ambassador in three countries, gave the undergraduate commencement address.
Local students are: Virginia Rosalind Bowen of Amelia, graduated with a B.A. in history with a minor in museum studies;
Emily Taylor Gibbs of Crewe, graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in natural environmental science and Spanish with a certificate in geographic information science. Michael J Hudgins of Jetersville, graduated with a B.S. in chemistry; Ellen Rives Kuhar of Scottsville, graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English.
