Earl C. Whittley, Jr., 59 Former Hospital Nurse, Dies Tuesday

VICTORIA, Dec. 3 – Earl Clifton Whittley Jr., 59, of Victoria died Tuesday, December 1, 2009. He was predeceased by his father, Earl C. Whittley Sr. and survived by his mother, Golda Worsham Whittley of Victoria, also surviving are several cousins, including Stuart Dunnavant.

Earl was a member of Victoria Baptist Church and a member of the Board of Regents for Liberty University, Lynchburg. He was a longtime member and EMT for Victoria Fire & Rescue Company, where he served as secretary and taught EMT classes. He also served Farmville Fire & Rescue.

He attended Southside VA Community College and worked as a drafter for two years before attending school to become a nurse. He was the first male graduate of Southside Community Hospital, School of Nursing, in October 1981. He worked at the Southside Community Hospital and then worked 13 years for the Va. Dept. of Corrections, Nottoway Correctional Center, as a nurse until he retired in 1996.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Staples Funeral Home, Victoria, with interment in the Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria.

The family will receive friends at all times at his mother's home, 3028 Poorhouse Road, Victoria VA.
