Gertrude Schmidt, 90

KEYSVILLE, Nov. 17 – Gertrude “Evelyn” Morton Schmidt, 90, of Keysville, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 12, 2009.

She was the wife of Clarence Terry Schmidt for 70 years. Born in Charlotte County, August 21, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Lee and Cora Morton of Keysville. In addition her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew Walter Morton of Texas and Horace Lee Morton of Florida.

Mrs. Schmidt is survived by a daughter, Barbara Ann Schmidt Ferguson and husband, Cecil “Barry” Ferguson of Lynchburg; two brothers, Hubert Andrew Morton and wife, Ruth and Darius Albert Morton and wife, Lottie, and a sister, Velma “Irene” Morton Locklair all of Richmond; granddaughter, Holly Dawn Ferguson Smith and husband, Tim and their three sons, Zack, Noah, and Christian Smith of Fort Mill, SC; grandson, Cecil Barry “C.B.” Ferguson Jr. and his family, Tember, Haivon, Ely, and Zane Ferguson, and one great-great-granddaughter, Laylah Ware, all of Lynchburg.

She was a lifelong member of Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church with 34 years perfect attendance. She was a former employee of Burlington Mills in Drakes Branch.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church on Sunday, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Hyung I. Moon officiating. The family will receive friends at Mt. Harmony following the service.
