Paschal E. Welch, 82 US Army Vet Dies February 25

PAMPLIN, March 3 – Paschal Ewart Welch, 82, of Pamplin, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg. He was the husband of Virginia Baker Welch.

Born January 25, 1927 in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Robert Paschal Welch and Florence Edna Walker Welch. He was a retired mail carrier and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Welch is survived by two sons, James Paschal Welch and wife, Susan of Richmond, and George Ewart Welch and wife, Penny of Pamplin; daughter, Virginia Ann Welch of Fork Union; sister, Nancy Carwile of Pamplin; two brothers, the Rev. Carroll B. Welch of Madison Heights and Gene W. Welch of Galax; six grandchildren, Dia Campbell and husband, Troy, Erin Weis-gram and husband, Troy, Lee Welch, Amy Welch, Daniel Welch and Emily Welch; great-grandchild, Brynne Weisgram; two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence J. Welch.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 1, in the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home, Farmville, with the Rev. Steve Tyree officiating. Interment followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Farmville.
