FARMVILLE — The Farmville Police Department is investigating the death of an unidentified man found Friday on South Main Street.

Investigators, according to a release from the Town’s Police Department, were summoned to the scene to investigate the cause of death. Evidence was collected from the scene for processing at the Department of Forensic Science, and the body was sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further forensic investigation.

“This case has not been classified beyond a death investigation at this time and there are no known or suspected threats to public safety.  As in any case of this nature, only a complete investigation can determine the full findings,” the release states. “The Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the police department when they determine the official cause of death. The investigation by the Farmville Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office is continuing and will take time to be concluded. During this time period, out of respect for surviving family and friends, only limited details of the investigation can be shared. We ask for patience and understanding during the course of this investigation. We also ask that everyone consider that any speculation on the matter could be damaging to the investigation and difficult for surviving friends and family.”
