Delegate Wright At Board Meeting

CUMBERLAND – Republican Delegate Tommy Wright Jr. attended Cumberland County's Board of Supervisors meeting this month. Cumberland is now located within the 61st District for the Virginia House of Delegates due to recent redistricting.

Delegate Wright commented, “It is indeed a pleasure to have Cumberland County in the 61st District. If there is anyway I can be of service my doors are always open. I can be reached by phone at my home, my office…
“I've been here several times,” he expressed. “I've been here several times and I've been welcomed into the community. I feel like I'm part of the community and I appreciate all the hospitality I've been shown so far.”
Wright has also had the chance to take advantage of a few hunting opportunities in Cumberland, he said.
“I've enjoyed hunting in the community…and I look forward to working with all of you,” he offered.
While in attendance, Delegate Wright took the time to present Julie A. Phillips, Cumberland County's deputy commissioner of the revenue, with her recent Master Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue certification.
The Commissioners of the Revenue Association announced that Philips has been awarded the title of Master Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue, under the Master Designation program administered by the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
The program was developed to enhance the professionalism of local government officials and their staff and is sanctioned by the Virginia General Assembly.
The program, which takes a minimum of three years to complete, requires a combination of extension education and governmental experience.
The process is an ongoing education experience, which does not end with receipt of the Master designation. In order to maintain the Master designation, the Deputy Commissioner must satisfactorily complete a minimum number of hours in continuing education after receipt of the initial designation.
Cumberland's Board of Supervisors Chairman, Van Petty also assisted in the certification presentation to Phillips.
