David R. Leonard, 61 Of Dillwyn Dies August 12

DILLWYN, August 14 – David Randolph Leonard, 61, of Dillwyn, passed away peacefully at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond on Tuesday, August 12, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father, John Randolph Leonard.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Pearl Gormus Leonard; a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Jonathan Green of Dillwyn; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Alexis Crews of Dillwyn; three grandsons, Wesley, Kenneth, and Andrew Green of Orange Park, FL; his mother, Alice Leonard of Dillwyn; and two sisters, Faye Bobb and Debbie Leonard, both of Dillwyn; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Leonard bravely served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8446, and was an avid hunter and fisherman and greatly enjoyed the out-doors. He retired from Lake Monticello Water Treatment Facility.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, from 7-9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 16, at 11 a.m. with interment in the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bucking-ham.
