Lucile A. Hicks, 94 Retired Educator Dies June 8

JUNE 9 – Lucile Atkins Hicks, 94, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009 in Farmville. She was born in Wethersfield, Illinois, but lived most of her life in Virginia. She was a graduate of Marion College and Radford University. Her life was spent as a teacher in the Public Schools of Virginia. She taught 38 years in Smyth and Giles Counties. She retired in 1975.

Mrs. Hicks was the wife of Paul P. Hicks. They had one son, Dr. Paul P. Hicks Jr., a dentist in Farmville.

Survivors are Paul P. Hicks Jr. and wife, Patricia Hicks; two grandchildren, Paul P. Hicks III (Trey and wife, Meg), and Laura H. Coombe; a great-grandson, Lleyton Coombe; and a sister, Marilyn A. Heston of Illinois.

Mrs. Hicks resided in Farmville since 1999.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Dr. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service.
