CUMBERLAND COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as may be heard, in the Circuit Courtroom at the Cumberland Courthouse in Cumberland, Virginia, to conduct a public hearing pursuant to Virginia Code Section 15.2-2204, which such hearing may be continued or adjourned, as required under applicable law, and to consider the following item and taking actions in furtherance thereof:

Comprehensive Plan Amendment: CP 11-01 – The Cumberland County Planning Commission requests an amendment to the County Comprehensive Plan entitled “VDA Comprehensive Plan Amendment.” The proposed amendment would include a Village Development Area (RDA) and principles of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND). The proposed amendment would add text and maps, describing and establishing a Village Development Area and associated goals around the Courthouse area, as well as text and graphics describing and illustrating the principles of TND. The Village Development Area (VDA) is known by Virginia Code 15.2-2223.1 as an Urban Development Area (UDA).

The public purpose of the proposed amendment is to improve the future efficiency of state-funded road building and maintenance, realize goals of the Comprehensive plan, better plan for future residential and commercial growth and to satisfy the requirements of Virginia Code 15.2-2223.1.

Copies of the complete text of the above comprehensive plan amendment proposal, associated plan and maps are available for public review at the office of the Cumberland County Planning Department, County Administration Building, 1 Courthouse Circle, Cumberland, Virginia between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm of each business day. The public is invited to attend this hearing at which persons affected may appear and present their views.
