MAY 5 – Darrell G. Harbaum, beloved son of the late William and Katherine Harbaum, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his home in Farmville, at the age of 84.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Jr., and three sisters, Maxine Jacobs of Springdale, OH, Betty Chromzack of North Lake, IL, and Shirley Littlefield of Wichita Falls, TX.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Burns of Mason, OH; 12 nieces and nephews, one godson, and close friends, Lee and Rosie Lapp and family.
Darrell graduated from Trenton High School in 1942 and then joined the army. He was stationed in Europe and served in the Signal Corps until 1945. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1949, earned his Master's of Music in 1953, and taught at several schools and universities before moving to Farmville. Darrell was a Professor of Music at Longwood College for 30 years before retiring in 1992.
Visitation will be at Puckett Funeral Home at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 6, with the funeral at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Trenton Mennonite Church Cemetery, Trenton, OH, on Friday, May 8.
Contributions may be made through the Foundation Office at Longwood University, earmarked for the Music Department.
