RICHMOND, Aug. 23 – Eugene Watson Crews, 91, of Richmond, died Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was born February 9, 1920 in Buckingham. He was a World War II veteran and D-Day survivor, serving in the 1st Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from DuPont in 1984 with 45 years service. He was a charter member of Skipwith Baptist Church, where he served several terms as a Deacon, and since 1961 was a member of the Joppa Masonic Lodge #40.
Mr. Crews is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Grace S. Crews; sons, E. Melvin Crews (Maureen) and W. Bryan Sargent; daughters, Margaret C. Honeycutt (Dennis) and Linda Ewell; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Ryan), Ashley Ewell, Brooke Jenkins (David), Bailey Crews and Ellie Sargent; brothers, James Dabney Crews (June) and Cabell L. Crews (Margaret); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ernestine Shoemaker Crews, his parents, Harry A. and Bessie S. Crews, sister, Christine C. Eades, and brothers, Houston H. Crews and Jesse A. Crews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 22 at Skipwith Baptist Church, Richmond. Interment with Masonic graveside rites followed at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
